MVM Paks Nuclear Power Plant Ltd. planned the reconstruction of the control cabinets for the main feed pumps. The goal of the investment is to increase operational safety and ensure compliance with lifetime extension requirements.
During the modification, outdated relay logic was replaced with modern automation systems, and contact pressure gauges and temperature measurements for the auxiliary pressure systems were replaced with analog transmitters.
The modification affects the main feed pumps of all four reactor units, the oil pumps serving the main feed pump oil systems, the associated auto-transfer systems, as well as the pressure, temperature, flow, and level switches serving the control systems, based on the following tasks:
- Replacing existing relay automation in control cabinets with modern PLC control (Schneider M580)
- Porting the logic to the PLC while maintaining existing functions of the oil pump auto-transfer automation
- Replacing contact pressure gauges for pressure and flow measurements (differential pressure measurement) with analog pressure transmitters, and replacing/standardizing existing analog pressure transmitters
- Replacing pressure gauges with new, modern types
- Replacing outdated, multi-module temperature measurement circuits with modern analog temperature transmitters
- Ensuring configurability of new transmitters via HART protocol and making HART communication available for remote monitoring
- Displaying individual error signals from measurements and auto-transfer automation on the Unit Computer (BSZG), building upon the I&C foundation laid during the FKSZ (main feed pump) oil system reconstruction
- Recording auto-transfer automation events and maintaining an event log
- Connecting PLCs to the Unit Computer via the network cabinet installed during the FKSZ oil system reconstruction and the existing Process I&C Network
- Enabling simple and fast testing and simulation
The secondary circuit encompasses the feed-side of the steam generators, the main steam system, the high- and low-pressure turbine stages, the condenser, and the feedwater system. Its primary task is to convert the energy of flowing steam into rotational motion, driving the turbines and the generator. Each reactor is equipped with 5 main feed pumps. The critical nature of this task is underscored by the fact that 4 out of the 5 pumps must remain operational for the reactor to run at full power.
